Zinc is important for your health. If you don’t get enough zinc in your diet, this can lead to your neurological system not working optimally, diarrhoea and a weak immune system. Here are 5 of the best zinc rich foods that you should eat if you want to make sure you’re getting enough of it in your diet.

1. Pumpkin Seeds

There’s a reason pumpkin seeds have become one of the most popular new trendy foods in the last five years. They’re great for your health, that’s why! Just half a cup of pumpkins seeds will give you more than half of your recommended daily allowance of zinc.

Aside from being rich in zinc, they’re also rich in manganese, magnesium and they also have a surprising amount of protein in them, too.

2. Beef

The reason many people don’t have issues with a zinc deficiency is because beef is one of the most popular cuts of meat in the Western hemisphere. You’ll get your recommended daily allowance of zinc in just 150-200g of grass fed beef.

As well as having a lot of zinc, beef is a fantastic source of iron, too.

3. Cashew Nuts

Cashew nuts are the best nuts, right? Well, the best for zinc, at least.

Getting enough zinc in your diet is important; I actually find that if I don’t get enough zinc in my diet, I lose concentration, which is one of the more common issues if you’re not getting enough of it. Cashews are an awesome source of zinc, with a full cup giving you 50% of your recommended daily allowance.

lamb-zinc

4. Lamb

Though not as rich in zinc as beef, lamb is also an excellent source of zinc with an 8oz piece of lamb giving you two thirds of your recommend daily allowance of zinc.

Lamb is considered by some as like the evil cousin of beef, due to it’s high fat content and the fact that it’s high in calories. This shouldn’t be the case! If you’re a meat eater, you should look to include some lamb in your diet.

mushrooms-zinc

5. Mushrooms

I added mushrooms because it’s one of the lesser known vegetables that contains zinc. I actually think mushrooms are like a superfood; low in calories, carbs and high in nutrients!

Just a handful of mushrooms will give you between 20-3-% of your recommended daily allowance of zinc – cool, right?
