If you’re looking for a new hair dryer but you have particularly fine hair, then this can be a bit of a concern. Everyone knows that cheap low quality hairdryers that run too hot can damage your hair, especially when it’s vulnerable to this in the first place.

But depending on your budget, you might not want to spend a fortune on a new hairdryer. That isn’t an issue – there’s a good range of high range, luxury hairdryers around but there’s also some good cheaper ones available too. So, whatever your budget, there’s going to be a hairdryer out there to suit your needs.

So, lets take a look at some of the best hair dryers that work well for fine hair that you’ll want to consider if you’re going to pick up a new one.

Best Hair Dryer for Fine Hair

There’s a wide range of different models here, but they’re all good options if you want to ensure your hair stays healthy. Let’s run through them, starting with my favorite!

Dyson Supersonic

Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer, Iron/Fuchsia
  • Helps prevent extreme heat damage to protect natural shine; Air temperature is measured 20 times every second, keeping the temperature under control
  • Ultra fast drying; For fast drying you need controlled, high velocity airflow. Rated power 1600watts
  • Includes: Magnetic attachments Dyson smoothing noozle, styling concentrator, and diffuser

Generally the Dyson Supersonic is regarded as the best hair dryer currently available for the majority of people. Apart from the relatively high price tag it holds which may put some people off, it’s undoubtedly the number one around when considering luxury hair dryers.

One of the main reasons why the Supersonic is so popular is because of it’s ability to leave your hair undamaged. If you have damaged or particularly fine hair, then you’ll known exactly what I’m talking about. Cheap hairdryers are great and all, but a lot of them don’t have any form of temperature moderation. This means that they can get really hot, which can damage your hair. Fortunately, the Supersonic has temperature regulation which makes it perfect for those with fine and delicate hair.

Another great thing about the Supersonic is that for a powerful hairdryer, it’s actually extremely light. This makes it a good choice for those that want a hairdryer that’s portable, as it’s very easy to move the Supersonic around with you wherever you go.

All in all, the Supersonic is likely to be the best choice for anyone looking for the best of the best that isn’t too bothered about the price tag.

GHD Air

ghd Air Hair Dryer — 1600w Professional Blow Dryer, Salon Strength Motor, Concentrator Nozzle, Adjustable Temperature Setting, and Ionic Technology for Super-Fast Drying — Black
  • PROFESSIONAL SALON STRENGTH MOTOR ― The award-winning Air Professional Blow Dryer features a professional-strength motor to deliver a high-pressure airflow for a salon finish 2x faster compared to...
  • ADVANCED IONIC TECHNOLOGY FOR LONG-LASTING STYLE ― Ionic Technology on this lightweight hair dryer gives you a smooth salon-style finish that locks in moisture and controls frizz for a soft, shiny,...
  • POWER & TEMPERATURE CONTROL WITH CONCENTRATOR NOZZLE ― Tailor your blow-dry to your hair type and your style with variable temperature and power controls. It also features a concentrator nozzle...

The ghd Air is difficult to compare to the Supersonic because they’re two of the best around. If we’re looking at dramatic differences, the Supersonic hasn’t got much that differentiates it from the Air. You’re getting a more powerful machine with the Air, as it has a higher wattage. For some, this may mean its better, as traditionally a higher wattage indicates that the hairdryer is more powerful. But if you used both together, you’d be unlikely to notice much of a difference in drying times.

The Air only has two different settings, whilst the Supersonic has three – this might make it better for salon use (which is kind of why they released the Supersonic Professional Edition – because it’s a salon quality hairdryer). But, for home use, the ghd Air has pretty much everything that you could need from a hairdryer.

What makes the ghd Air a better choice for most people over the Supersonic is the price different. And for a lot less change, the quality of the hair dryer is not significantly different in my opinion, especially if you’re only going to use it around the house. It still has all the great same power of the other more expensive hair dryers and it has a good precision nozzle too. So for a cheaper option than the Supersonic that isn’t compromising too much in terms of power and usability, then the ghd Air makes another decent choice.

Elchim 2100

Elchim 2001 High Pressure Hair Dryer - white , 1 Count (Pack of 1)
  • Lightweight, handy and aesthetically pleasing
  • Seven switch combinations allow for seven ranges of speed and temperature
  • Nozzle attachment

If you’re looking for the classic hair dryer style but you don’t want to fork out hundreds of dollars for the Supersonic, then the Elchim 2100 might prove to be a good investment. It’s a great choice for those that want something powerful enough to dry your hair quickly.

One of the reasons that the 2100 is a good choice for people with fine hair specifically is that it has 5 different heat settings. This means that you can easily adjust the settings if you think that the heat is too hot – a heat setting thats too high is one of the worst things for your hair, especially if you have fine hair already. So, the ability to change the temperatures is ideal for those of us with fine hair.

The 2100 is generally accepted to be one of the better options if you’re looking for a basic hairdryer – it’s a salon quality hairdryer at a household price.

Hot Tools Hairdryer

HOT TOOLS Pro Signature 1875W Turbo IONIC Hair Dryer
  • Ionic Technology to help reduce frizz and static for healthy-looking, shiny blowouts.
  • Designed with maximum airflow for up to 40% faster drying.
  • 2 speed/6 heat combinations provide styling versatility and great performance on different hair types and textures.

If you’re trying to save a little cash, then it might be worth looking at this Hot Tools Hairdryer. It’s a great choice if you don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on a hairdryer.

It’s part of their signature series, and it has 3 different heating settings, as well as two different speeds. It’s quite a quiet hairdryer, which makes it a good option if you don’t want some super loud salon quality hairdryer in your house. The negative ions that it uses can help you keep your hair looking shiny, which is exactly what we want from a hairdryer.

It’s a lightweight hairdryer and it does everything that you could ask of it, which makes it another great choice if you’re looking for something to dry your fine hair with.

T3 Cura Hair Dryer

T3 - CURA Hair Dryer | Digital Ionic Professional Blow Dryer | Fast Drying, Volumizing Wide Air Flow | Frizz Smoothing | Multiple Speed and Heat Settings | Cool Shot
  • Fight the frizz in less time with T3 Digital IonAir. A digitally-controlled wide volume of air is enhanced with negative ions to dry hair quickly with soft, healthy-looking results.

Finally, we’ll take a look at the T3 Cura Hair Dryer. This model uses a special kind of ion technology to dry your hair quicker than your average hair dryer. Due to the highly concentrate airflow design of the T3, its really good for smoothing your hair dry and styling it if you want to. Although it’s a powerful hair dryer, it manages to do this without causing any kind of damage – the powerful air is still soft, which is ideal for a hairdryer.

If you have fine hair and you want something that isn’t going to cause damage but still allow you to style it easily, then it’s worth looking at a T3 hair dryer.

Hair Dryer Buying Guide

If you’re going to be purchasing a hair dryer, then you’ll undoubtedly want to know exactly what it is you should be looking for. Here’s a few things to take into account before you make a purchase.

Wattage

For me, the wattage of a hair dryer is the equivalent of how important megapixels are in cameras. They do matter, but not as much as everyone thinks. The majority of decent quality hair dryers will have enough wattage to dry your hair quickly and easily, so this isn’t something to worry about too much.

Settings

The best hair dryers will have multiple different settings for you to adjust the heat of the hairdryer too. This is important for people with fine hair, as you’ll likely want to use a lower than maximum heat a good deal of the time. So for those that don’t want to damage their hair, different heat settings are a must.

Hairdryer Attachments

Depending on the hairdryer that you purchase, it may or may not have different attachments which might make it better for certain things e.g. a diffuser for curly hair. So, depending on what exactly it is that you need, one option may be a lot better for you than the rest.

Conclusion

Overall, these are just a selection of my favorite hair dryers that are currently available. Although the Supersonic is particularly expensive, it’s definitely one of the best hairdryers currently around. But if you don’t have that kind of cash to spare, then there are other options around that are also worth considering too. You don’t have to spend a ton of cash on a hairdryer to get a decent one, but it’s worth it if you do have the extra money.
