If you’re going for the completely bald look, then it isn’t that easy to pull off. Anyone who’s ever shaved their head with a razor can attest that the first few times they done it, something went wrong. Whether it was a bumpy rash or a nick on the back of your ear (I still do this occasionally!), there’s more than meets the eye to a freshly shaven bonce. To keep your head in tip top shape, you’ll want to try and find the best moisturizer for a bald head.
Table of Best Moisturizers for a Bald Head
Keeping your head in tip top condition is important – not only for your appearance to others, but for yourself too. Women like a guy that looks like he takes care of himself. And I’m not being sexist, gay guys like a guy who looks like he takes care of himself too! Whether you’re out to impress the ladies of the fellas, a good moisturizer can help your head appear cleaner and feel smoother. Who doesn’t want that, right?
Lets have a look at a couple of the best head moisturizers around to find out what might be the best option for you.
Best Moisturizers for a Bald Head
Bee Bald Moisturizer
I’m an advocate of the Bee Bald moisturizer and I’ve used it many times in the past. It’s a great option if you want a good quality moisturizer for your head.
What I particularly like about this moisturizer is that it doubles as a sunscreen. It gives you SPF30 protection against the sun, which is ideal for when you’re only holiday or if you live in sunny climes. You should only need to apply this once a day to get results, though sometimes I like to carry it with me and use it later in the day to make sure that I’m fully protected from the heat.
Getting too much sunlight on your head is actually a big issue if you’re a bald guy, as it can be harmful. You don’t want to live your entire life wearing hats in the sunshine, so a good quality moisturizing sunscreen can help protect your head. If you’ve ever got sunburn on your scalp, then you’ll know what I’m talking about; it’s worth investing in a good quality sunscreen that doubles as a moisturizer too.
I have done a more in depth review of the Bee Bald Moisturizer.
Proactiv Moisturizer
If you’re dealing with clogged pores or blotchy skin, it’s important that you find a moisturizer than can really make a difference. Enter Proactiv; a Green Tea moisturizer that is certain to help replenish your skins health.
Proactiv is full of ingredients which help to hydrate your scalp. This particular brand is known especially for dealing with extreme cases of acne, with great results. This makes it a good option if you’re dealing with a bumpy forehead – something many bald guys deal with. A bumpy forehead is made only more noticeable by the fact that we’re bald, so it’s important you try to fix the issue immediately.
If you’re dealing with skin issues and want a moisturizer that can help, then opt for this one from Proactiv.
Fantasia Scalp Serum
Fantasia scalp serum is made especially for a dry scalp, so if this is something you’re dealing with – look no further. It’s easily applicable to your scalp and will rub in quickly within a few seconds.
Aside from the serum being super effective, it’s a nice scent too. It’s filled with good ingredients, specifically aloe vera which make it an excellent choice for a post shave serum that will help to alleviate any redness in your scalp.
This scalp serum will absorb into your head very easily, making it an optimal choice for those looking for something to help with dryness. If you’re dealing with a dry bald scalp, then this is likely to be a good option for you.
High Time Moisturizer
This product from High Time is made specifically for those that want to take care of their head to the best of their ability. It will enable you to maintain excellent health on your head.
If you struggle with things like ingrown hairs and razor bumps, then this is exactly the kind of product that you need. By moisturizing this into our head, you will help eliminate any issues that you’d usually associate with wet shaving. You should take care of your head like you take care of the rest of your body; you don’t have your hair to protect you anymore!
This is a great product for newbies, so if you haven’t tried a bald head moisturizer before then this could be the best option for you.
Palmers Bald Balm
No products found.
If you don’t want to use a moisturizer, then a good bald head balm is another alternative that you could choose.
If you’ve ever used Cocoa Butter before, then you’ll be familiar with Palmers and the quality of products that they create. This bald balm is also one of their better products, and will make sure that you have a healthy scalp. It’s filled with Vitamin E also, so this cocoa butter formula will be perfect for those looking to make their head softer.
It’s also an SPF30 sunscreen protector too, so if you’re going on holiday then you’ll want to pick some of this bald balm up. This is a solid option for those who want to maintain a healthy looking head. after you’ve used this bald balm a few times, you’re sure to notice a difference in the smoothness of your scalp.
Why you should consider a balding moisturizer
Many new baldies are totally unaware that if you’re going to rock a chrome dome, you need to take care of your scalp. This is especially true in hotter climates, where you’ll need to take extra care to make sure that you don’t let your scalp get damaged.
Hydration
Hydration is the main reason that you’ll want to use a good head moisturizer for your scalp. This is because a good quality moisturizer will help you to eliminate any issues with dry skin, though you do have to be careful not to overdo it (which is easier said than done!).
Sunlight
Of course, sunlight is one of the main things that can have an effect on your scalp, which is why I’ve mentioned moisturizers that double up and sunscreens too. Using one of these on your head can be a great idea if you’re looking to get a double whammy and protect yourself from the sun, whilst simultaneously keeping your noggin soft.
Appearance
It’s no secret that a bald head is more popular now than it has been in any other point in time. But, you need to take care of your head properly.
That means using a top quality razor to get your head looking sharp, a nice after shave balm to cool down any rashes, and a top quality head moisturizer to make your scalp appear fresh.
Other Products to Consider if you’re Bald
If you’re newly bald or even if you’ve bee bald for a while, then you might be surprised to know that you need to take care of your head as much as you’d take care of your hair, if not more. It’s a common joke that when you lose your hair things get a lot easier to maintain, but in my opinion that couldn’t be further from the truth.
This is especially true if you use a razor on your scalp, as you’ll need a variety of different products to ensure that your head stays looking fresh. For some people, they find that their scalp becomes oily when they’re bald, and at the other end of the spectrum, a lot of baldies find that they sometimes get a dry scalp. So, I thought it would be worth adding my favorite balding accessories and products here if you’re looking for a balding haircare regime. Obviously, you can see my favorite bald head moisturizers here already, so lets look at some other stuff.
St Ives Apricot Scrub
- DEEP EXFOLIATION: Experience deep yet gentle exfoliation that removes stubborn dead skin cells, revealing a radiant, healthy-looking complexion
- RADIATING SKIN: The formula leaves the skin feeling refreshed, revitalized, and illuminated
- NATURAL EXFOLIANT: Formulated with 100% natural walnut shell powder, this buffs away impurities without harsh chemicals; Non-comedogenic, meaning it won't clog pores
This is like the Holy Grail for many bald guys. If you deal with clogged up pores on your scalp, then there’s a good chance this is because you aren’t exfoliating properly. If you don’t want to use a scalp exfoliating brush (I don’t at the moment but they can be a good choice too), then St Ives is great. Using it every other day on your face and head can be a great way to ensure that your skin doesn’t get clogged up.
A good razor
Finding the right razor for you is another essential part of taking care of your scalp properly. For those that use clippers or foil shavers this won’t matter so much, but for those of us that hate having a horseshoe shadow, then a razor is an essential. It’s worth trying a variety of different razors to try and find the best one for your needs, as often one that works well for you might not suit someone elses skin. It really depends on the coarseness your hair, so bear this in mind too.
Aftershave balm
- Soothes Sensitive Skin: NIVEA MEN post shave balm soothes and moisturizes sensitive skin after shaving for visibly healthy-looking skin
- Fights Shaving Irritation: This NIVEA shave balm for men fights irritation from shaving, burning, micro cuts, dryness, tightness and stubble itch
- Quick Absorption: NIVEA for men sensitive post shave balm absorbs quickly into skin without any greasy or sticky feel
If you’re shaving regularly, you’re going to deal with rashes and razor bumps at some point – this is true for pretty much all guys (I’m yet to meet one who hasn’t dealt with razor bumps at some point, if this is you then leave a comment below!). There are a variety of different aftershave balms out there, but I usually stick with the standard Nivea for this.
Conclusion
I think that you’ll be happy with any of the options I’ve listed. Keeping your scalp in top health is important, whether you’re growing any hair up top or not. You should treat your head just like you’d treat any other area on your body – we only get one, so it’s important to take care of it.

I have used the Palmer’s Bald Balm for a couple of years now and sadly report they have discontinued the product. I called them and all inventory is gone. Walmart and Amazon are out of stock too so will be trying BeeBald now. Thanks for the great information!
